Buy
Buy BBuy Local Initiative

In October 2008, the Chamber of Commerce, the RM of North Norfolk and Manitoba Food and Rural Initiatives, MAFRI, co sponsored and evening with Ken Meter from the Crossroads Resource Centre in Minneapolis.  Ken is a specialist in regional food economies.  Ken provided analysis and examples of value added production and how more money could stay in the region.

A follow up evening was held in Carberry in November with the Harvest Moon Society presenting ideas to stimulate the local economy.

In February 2009 several people who attended the previous presentations got together to discuss the next step in what has been called the buy local initiative.  Bob Wheeler and Angela Pearen Burnside from MAFRI attended the session.  Angela acted as the group facilitator and a lot of ideas were discussed.  Angela and Bob correlated the information received and produced a report,  Business Leader Forum Report Feb 2009 which is being disseminated to the group.

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act

The act came into full force 1 January 2004.  It applies to every business in Canada. Click here to read what it is about and how it applies to you and what are your responsibilities under the legislation.

The Austin and district web site www.austinmanitoba.com has been getting good feedback.  We’ve had email from different parts of the world requesting information about Austin. To keep the web site online we have a good promotion for chamber members. For $ 20 a year, for anyone who is interested, we will create and publish a separate page on the internet with a link to your name in the directory. We will include a couple of photos and the text of your choice. That is pretty reasonable advertising. If you already have a web site, we can create a link to it.
